CURSO DE INMUNIDAD INNATA CONTRA PATOGENOS EN URUGUAY ORGANIZA LA ASOCIACIÓN LATINOAMERICANA DE INMUNOLOGIA Y EL INSTITUTO PASTEUR DE FRANCIA Latino American association of Immunology INNATE IMMUNITY AGAINST PATHOGENS Sponsored by: AMSUD-Pasteur Institute Pasteur - Montevideo, Asociación Latinoamericana de Inmunología Place: Montevideo (Uruguay) Dates: May 22 – June 2 Organizing Committee: Alejandro Chabalgoity (Uruguay) and Daniel Scott-Algara (France) Infectious diseases kill 50.000 people a day and infections remain a major challenge for researchers of all countries for the coming century. For decades most immunologists ignored innate immunity and concentrated their efforts on dissecting the adaptive immune system. However, over the last decade innate immunity has slowly but surely gained in stature and is now recognised as a major force in our fight against infection and disease. Through a limited number of players innate immunity performs a remarkable range of functions assisting the mammalian host to survive in an abundant microbial world. Conversely, disruption of host innate immunity is now known to play a central role in the pathogenesis of a variety of acute and chronic inflammatory conditions. The aim of this course is to provide within two weeks the latest knowledge in the innate immune responses to microbes. It will combine lectures with "hands on" laboratory exercises, and the discussion of seminal papers in the field. The course will be dictated by a group of Uruguayan and Pasteurians actively involved in the study of infectious diseases and with a focus of research interest in innate immune response to pathogens and/or vaccines. Teachers have a great expertise in the field of teaching at the Institute Pasteur, Universities and international lectures. The course will be held at the Institute of Hygiene of the School of Medicine, University of Uruguay which has a long established history as a Latin American centre for research and teaching in infectious diseases. In the context of the opening of the Institute Pasteur of Montevideo, the tenure of this course would enlighten the new links between both institutions, and offer a great opportunity to provide to students a high level teaching program and may be the chance to begin new collaborative projects in the field of infectious diseases. Language: Spanish and English. A good level of English is necessary for the inscription
